#3185 State and Federal Law Update

This course is designed to provide law enforcement officers, administrators and policy makers with an update of recent statute changes and additions provided by the 85th Legislature. Recent Supreme Court decisions that impact important issues are also included in this course as these cases may impact the function, policy, and procedures of law enforcement officers and law enforcement administration. At the conclusion of this course, attendee’s will receive 4 hours TCOLE training credit.

#1850 Crisis Intervention Training (40 HR)   (CLASS IS FULL)

August 27-31, 2018                           8:00 AM—5:00 PM

Location: Webster Civic Center, 311 Pennsylvania Ave, Webster, TX 77598

This course provides the key concepts, safety techniques and communication skills for peace officers to use when they respond to individuals in a serious mental health crisis. It covers the legal aspects of mental health commitments, liability issues, mental disorders, and mental disabilities. In addition, it deals with a variety of developmental disabilities including epilepsy, cerebral palsy and hearing impairments. Other areas covered include:

  • indicators of mental illness
  • understanding mental illness
  • documenting the interpersonal relations necessary to effectively work with the mentally ill, their families, and the mental health system
  • intervention strategies for dealing with low and high risk situations

Per SB 1849, Sandra Bland Act, the 40 hour Crisis Intervention Training Course #1850 is to be completed by the second anniversary of the day the officer was licensed or date applying for Intermediate or Advanced Proficiency, whichever is first.
